Keane Concert with Mat Kearney May 30, 2009

For Tim’s birthday, I treated him with tickets to the Keane concert!  I bought the tickets the moment they went on sale and we got terrific seats.  It was an AMAZING show!  Mat Kearney, whose new song Closer to Love is on the radio right now, opened for them and was really good — just good, chill music that’s easy to listen to.  On Mat Kearney’s tour blog, they said of the show, “The show tonight was the best one yet.  Mat and the band sounded amazing.”  Here’s some pictures and video we took of the show in case you missed it.

I wanted to crop this man’s head… but I don’t have a cropping machine.

I was amazed at how theatrical Keane was in their performance style.  The singer, Tom, used his arms a lot — exhibit A!  And have you ever seen a keyboardist headbang?  Well theirs did!  And didn’t miss a note, amazingly!  They were absolutely amazing.  Kept us on our feet the entire time.

If you aren’t familiar with either Mat Kearney or Keane, do yourself a favor and get acquainted!  It’s excellent happy music.  You’ll be happy you did.

Happy Halloween! November 2, 2008

Happy Halloween, everyone!  Here’s some shots of our darling nieces and nephews who came trick-or-treating.  Aren’t they so cute and scary?!

Don’t mess with Nathan!  He’s a ninja.

Adam makes some great monkey sounds!

Doesn’t Jacob make a smashing George Washington?

Rachel looks SO Chinese – she even has the chopsticks to prove it.

Jef was Smiegel – made kids cry.  Pretty sweet.

Mary was very imaginative with her costume this year – candy corn!

And Jean – the witch in charge of the candy and the door.  What would Halloween have been without her?

So after watching The Office and seeing all the great costumes, I decided to dress up after all, reusing my witch costum from last year.  Here’s some highlights from Halloween 2007:

Dorothy – complete with her ruby red slippers & Toto

Where’s Waldo & … Clorox?

Third Anniversary August 30, 2008

This Monday, Tim and I will celebrate our third anniversary! It’s hard to believe that three years have really gone by – Tim really is the easiest person to be married to. Our anniversary typically falls on or around the Labor Day long weekend – sweet deal.

At our wedding reception in Vancouver, I surprised Tim by singing for him a beautiful song by Sarah McLachlan called Push. At the end of the song, my voice started to break and I couldn’t make it through without crying. Tim came and sat next to me for moral support as I finished the song. The lyrics are just as true today as they were then:

Everytime I look at you the world just melts away
All my troubles, all my fears dissolve in your affection
You see me at my weakest but you take me as I am
When I fall you offer me a softer place to land
You stay the course, you hold the line, keep it all together
You’re the one true thing I know I can believe in
You’re all the things that I desire, you save me, you complete me
You’re the one true thing I know I can believe
I get mad so easy but you give me room to breathe
No matter I say or do cuz you’re too good to fight about it
Even when I have to push just to see how far you’ll go
You won’t stoop down to battle but you never turn to go
Your love is just the antedote when nothing else can cure me
There are times I can’t decide when I can’t tell up from down
you make me feel less crazy when otherwise I’d drown
When you pick me up and brush me off and tell me I’m okay
Sometimes that’s just what we need to get us through the day
You stay the course, you hold the line, keep it all together
You’re the one true thing I know I can believe in
You’re all the things that I desire, you save me, you complete me
You’re the one true thing I know I can believe

Beautiful photography care of Yaletown Wedding Gallery, taken at Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver, Canada.  Oh the greenery…  When watching Martian Child this past past week (HIGHLY recommend it!), I knew it was filmed in Vancouver just by the lush greenery.  You could feel the moisture in the soil and humidity in the air just by looking at it.  That’s me – a true Vancouverite.
