Third Anniversary August 30, 2008

This Monday, Tim and I will celebrate our third anniversary! It’s hard to believe that three years have really gone by – Tim really is the easiest person to be married to. Our anniversary typically falls on or around the Labor Day long weekend – sweet deal.

At our wedding reception in Vancouver, I surprised Tim by singing for him a beautiful song by Sarah McLachlan called Push. At the end of the song, my voice started to break and I couldn’t make it through without crying. Tim came and sat next to me for moral support as I finished the song. The lyrics are just as true today as they were then:

Everytime I look at you the world just melts away
All my troubles, all my fears dissolve in your affection
You see me at my weakest but you take me as I am
When I fall you offer me a softer place to land
You stay the course, you hold the line, keep it all together
You’re the one true thing I know I can believe in
You’re all the things that I desire, you save me, you complete me
You’re the one true thing I know I can believe
I get mad so easy but you give me room to breathe
No matter I say or do cuz you’re too good to fight about it
Even when I have to push just to see how far you’ll go
You won’t stoop down to battle but you never turn to go
Your love is just the antedote when nothing else can cure me
There are times I can’t decide when I can’t tell up from down
you make me feel less crazy when otherwise I’d drown
When you pick me up and brush me off and tell me I’m okay
Sometimes that’s just what we need to get us through the day
You stay the course, you hold the line, keep it all together
You’re the one true thing I know I can believe in
You’re all the things that I desire, you save me, you complete me
You’re the one true thing I know I can believe

Sheryl Crow & James Blunt Concert August 27, 2008

Last night, Collette and I went to see Sheryl Crow & James Blunt at the Usana Amphitheater. James Blunt put on a great show! He ran took off his suit jacket, then joked that he would take off an item of clothing every song if the audience did, too. Of course there were people in the audience who were all for it. He ran through the audience, surfed the top of his upright piano, tipped over the bench (thankfully NOT the piano!) and switched seamlessly between piano and guitar. I was very impressed.

Sheryl Crow has an amazing voice & a great stage presence. All of her best songs, My Favorite Mistake, Leaving Las Vegas, Love is Free, Soak Up the Sun, The First Cut is the Deepest, are astounding live. Her hair has a life of its own. Gorgeous. Watching her shake her groove thing on stage, I began thinking about her triumphs with breast cancer and a momentous break-up, it’s impressive to see how far she’s come. Great show.

Thanks, Jon & Lauren! August 25, 2008

This week in Young Women’s, we’ll be playing “Name That Tune!”  Similar to Jeopardy, lines from popular songs will be read as clues and teams will compete to get the title and artist of the song correct.

Here’s a couple for you to guess – list the answers in comments.  First to guess all five gets a $10 gift certificate to blue bijou!

  1. Let me see what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars
  2. I know a girl, she puts the color inside of my world
  3. It’s like rain on your wedding day, it’s a free ride when you’ve already paid
  4. You’re the one, you make bath time so much fun
  5. It’s starts in my toes and I crinkle my nose

We’re still in the process of compiling clues – feel free to submit some of your own!

Church History Museum August 17, 2008

This week, Tim and I had a chance to be chaperons at Youth Conference.  Our first day, we had a National Treasure hunt that started at the Church History Museum on Temple Square in Salt Lake City.  Here are some of our favorite memories:

Holding onto the Iron Rod on the path to the Tree of Life.  L to R: Candice, Tim, Quinton, Brady, Liz & our resident Brazilian, Manuel.

Brady standing next to a replica of the framing of the Salt Lake City tabernacle supporting the impressive roof without any pillar support – a whopping 9 feet across!

One of the highlights of the visit was spent in the kids area.  Here they are rubbing the CTR symbol in multiple languages including Arabic, Korean and Cambodian.

My impressive rubbing skills.

Liz, me & Candice sitting in chairs intended for littler people.

An impressive three dimensional painting of the prophet Joseph Smith.  The real-live arches added a lot!

President Bush at the Olympics

My create-a-caption would read – “where do I put my hands?”  What about yours?
