Flavors of Entanglement July 30, 2008

I grew up listening to Alanis Morissette. We go way back. Another memorable Canadian. Recently she released Flavors of Entanglement which and I leapt at the chance to take it all in. Having been through an epic break-up with Ryan Reynolds, Alanis’s songs are heartbreaking and raw, allowing us into her world.

My favorite? Not As We:

“Day one, day one, start over again. Step one, step one, with not much making sense. Just yet I’m faking it till I’m pseudo making it. From scratch begin again but this time I as I and not as we.”

L & L Motivation Success

Recently I met a new friend named Lloyd Dison, the founder of L & L Motivation Success. Lloyd is truly remarkable as he has 5 crushed vertebrae and 5 crushed discs in his neck and back – but you’d never know it! He functions like someone with a perfectly healthy spine. He teaches people to change their physical, emotional & spiritual lives through concepts like dynamic visualizations, Neuro-Linguistic Programming and clinical hypnosis. He works with children and adults alike, helping them recover from abuse, lose weight, improve health, wealth, marriage and family life.

Since becoming acquainted with Lloyd, I have learned so much about how the subconscious mind works and ways I can make it work in my favor. In his office, you’ll see these high wheelers all over the place. In a way we can all understand, he compares the conscious mind to the small wheel on a high wheeler, comprising 10%, and our subconscious minds as the large wheel with 90% control. Fascinating!

Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis happens whenever we daydream or use our imagination. We are constantly doing self hypnosis during the day. Isn’t that wild? I have learned invaluable lessons about myself and have had remarkable spiritual experiences with his coaching and hypnosis. Thank you, Lloyd.

Kiss.  It works every single time.

For best results, your kiss must last more than 7 seconds.  Enjoy!

This week, I had a chance to sit down with Jonathan Prouxl, a local entrepreneur, friend and client, and had a great visit. One of the highlights was a clip he showed me from the Onion News Network which is HILARIOUS! It’s just 2.5 minutes & totally worth the time – check it out!

Tim plays in a band called Harmonautica with two other incredibly talented musicians, Josh Francis on trumpet/keys and Eric Blood on bass. This Friday night, they played a show at the Music School in American Fork and I had a chance to take it all in. Here are some highlights from the show. Enjoy.

Tim setting up for the show

Josh and Eric pointing at Tim to start them off

Josh on trumpet – quite possibly the best picture of the evening

Eric tuning his bass

Below: Tim on Cajon (literally “box” in spanish – a very cool percussive instrument)

In August, Tim and I are going to host a School of Rock mini-series for the youth in our ward. It’s going to be awesome and we’ve got a ton of musically inclined kids in our neighborhood. We can’t wait! (if ONLY Steven and Joe could be there though…)

Flamenco in San Francisco July 19, 2008

One of the highlights from our recent San Francisco trip was live flamenco at La Taza de Cafe in Oakland. San Francisco has some of the best flamenco in the entire continent, so before anything else, I made arrangements to find flamenco. is a great guide to flamenco performances, nightlife and classes in the Bay area. It was there that we found out La Taza de Cafe in Oakland has live quadro flamenco on Friday nights. Quadro flamenco is where you have a singer, guitarist and two dancers taking turns dancing and doing palmas (clapping). There is nothing quite like seeing live flamenco in such an intimate setting, typically the size of a living room and kitchen put together. The power and passion of flamenco is felt strongest in this arena.

We had the honor of taking in a spellbinding performance by bailoras Melissa Cruz and Kerensa DeMars with singer Azriel “El Moreno” and guitarist David Gutierrez. They captivated us for two sets consisting of Sevillanas, alegrias, bulerias por fiesta, solea por bulerias and even a rumba with special guest performances from audience members! I was pulled up by Kerensa and given a chance to make it up with her on the spot. Exhilarating!

Additionally, the staff at La Taza are incredibly accommodating and pleasant – plus their food is AMAZING! Thanks for a great night of fabulous food and flamenco!
