New Young Women’s Value – Virtue December 7, 2008

new-young-women-value-virtueThe First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints recently announced a new value to the Young Women’s theme – virtue.  For the official letter dated November 28, 2008, click here.

From the official church website, ‘”Virtue is a pattern of thought and behavior based on high moral standards. It encompasses chastity and moral purity.” The time has come for the young women of the Church to lead the world in a return to virtue. This is the time to be pure and to qualify for the guidance of the Holy Ghost.’

The Young Women’s theme is recited by Latter-day Saint girls aged 12-18 each Sunday across the world.  Here is the updated version:

“We are daughters of our Heavenly Father who loves us, and we love Him.  We will stand as witnesses of God, at all times, and in all things, and in all places, as we strive to live the Young Women Values, which are:

Faith
Divine Nature
Individual Worth
Knowledge
Choice and Accountability
Good Works
Integrity and
Virtue

We believe as we come to accept and act upon these values, we will be prepared to strengthen home and family, make and keep sacred covenants, receive the ordinances of the temple and enjoy the blessings of exaltation.”

Church History Museum August 17, 2008

This week, Tim and I had a chance to be chaperons at Youth Conference.  Our first day, we had a National Treasure hunt that started at the Church History Museum on Temple Square in Salt Lake City.  Here are some of our favorite memories:

Holding onto the Iron Rod on the path to the Tree of Life.  L to R: Candice, Tim, Quinton, Brady, Liz & our resident Brazilian, Manuel.

Brady standing next to a replica of the framing of the Salt Lake City tabernacle supporting the impressive roof without any pillar support – a whopping 9 feet across!

One of the highlights of the visit was spent in the kids area.  Here they are rubbing the CTR symbol in multiple languages including Arabic, Korean and Cambodian.

My impressive rubbing skills.

Liz, me & Candice sitting in chairs intended for littler people.

An impressive three dimensional painting of the prophet Joseph Smith.  The real-live arches added a lot!

Tonight we had a fun YW activity – the beehives came over and we had makeovers and milkshakes! It was a ton of fun. Here are some fun photos of our beehives: Mariah, Camiy, Mary, Ashlie & Savannah (M’s cousin).  Aren’t they darling?!

Your Young Women’s Experience March 4, 2008

Last Sunday, I was asked to be the 2nd Counselor in our Young Women’s presidency!

I have since been channeling and reminiscing my Young Women’s years, the leaders that made a difference, and the ways in which I was mentored by them and the unforgettable lessons I learned: how to put on make-up, my hemlines and the affect it has on boys, that you marry who you date, and much more.

Earlier this afternoon, I asked my younger sister to remind me what it’s like to be 13, the things that matter in her life right now, the fun activities in YW and got some GREAT answers.

So now I extend this question to you – What was it like when you were 12, 13, 14, etc? What was important to you? What do you remember about your Young Women’s experience?  What were some of the fun activities you remember?  Who were the leaders that made a difference in your life and why? Any thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated! Look forward to hearing all about it!
