A Brand New Year January 18, 2009

a-brand-new-year-wordsThis Wednesday, the youth in our stake had a huge joint activity where we all watched a broadcast from the Conference Center in Salt Lake City featuring Elder Jeffrey R. Holland & Elaine S. Dalton. The 2009 worldwide theme for the youth of the church is to be an example of the believers. The youth have been encouraged by the First Presidency of the church to do 3 things: read the Book of Mormon for five minutes every day, pray daily and to smile. At this same activity, each of us was assigned a page or two to read from the Book of Mormon. We all collectively read the entire Book or Mormon in seven minutes!  🙂  Beat that!

And the biggest shock this week – I was released from my calling in the Young Women’s presidency! In fact, our entire presidency was released. You know when you can feel it coming?  It’s still so strange and I feel somewhat directionless.  The girls are blessed to have an awesome prez coming in w/Kim, Mindi and Jamie.  We all had opportunities to bear our testimonies in Sacrament Meeting today and I’m so glad we did – I had really wanted to.  It’s been an absolute privilege to serve the amazing girls in our ward – I have needed them as much as they’ve needed me.  I really have thought twice about what type of example I’d be setting for them, so they’ve helped me be a better version of myself.  We really have had awesome memories together.  I love you, girls!!!

Okay, so what do you do with yourself once you’re released from a momentous dream calling?  Advice, please!

Aw-I am SO sad I could not make it to the Book of Mormon thing or the temple pictures! Sheesh! You’re going to make me cry all over again.

But hey-you were amazing in your calling and I will forever look up to you. I am so happy I was able to get to know you for that time and will continue to do so. The pictures are amazing. You are all remarkable.

Love you much, Sarah! And don’t forget-Asian invasion 🙂

Oh, I wish I could give good advice, but I cried a lot when I was released from YWs! Being in another calling right away really helped though!

You were amazing as a YW leader! I loved you as a RS Teacher and remember being so bummed that you were taken from RS, but after hearing your testimony yesterday and seeing the influence you had on the girls’ lives and vice versa, I see why they took you. I watched the girls’ faces yesterday you could tell they were crushed to lose their leaders. You were all so great! (And you will be great in EVERY calling you serve in!)

What a strength you were for the girls. It will definitely be missed (not only by the girls but also by the adults :)!!

I really liked hearing about reading the whole book in 7 min., it really puts into perspective how possible it is to get scripture study in. I love the idea of reading for 5 min. a day, it makes sense in today’s world, modern day prophets really know their stuff. I have never had a calling in YW, it looks like you did an incredible job!

Mindi – thank you for your kind words! RS teacher was such a fun calling and it was hard to leave, but so worth it to be with the girls. You’re going to have a blast!

Jodell – I’ll miss kicking it with the awesome leaders, too!

Liz – totally. I’ve been pretty consistent with 5 minutes a day since this mutual event. It’s totally doable.
